In Part I, we found young, sweet Queenie in Calcutta being urged to become a proper English lady by her mother (Claire Bloom), a Hindu abandoned by her Irish husband. ![]() For the purposes of fictional action, a murder charge has been added to the melodramatic brew. The story is about Dawn Avalon (Mia Sara), born in India and originally named Queenie Kelly, and it is rather loosely inspired by the life of the actress Merle Oberon, whose original name was Queenie O'Brien. With a script assembled by Winston Beard and April Smith, ''Queenie'' is based on a novel by Michael Korda. The rest can be seen this evening, beginning at 8. The first two hours of this sumptuous five-hour Tinker Toy were broadcast on ABC last night. TAKE a girl of mixed blood, make her determined to climb out of desperate poverty, send her on the way to becoming an international film star and, lo and behold, you have ''Queenie,'' the latest television extravaganza in the absurd but good-for-a-giggle tradition of Judith Krantz and Sidney Sheldon. ![]()
